Junior Cycling Coaching

Two very important transitions in your career

Lasting just two years, the Junior category is an important transition period in the career of a cyclist. Bodies mature, which can 'even out the playing field' between faster and slower developing riders in the Youth category. In addition, race distances and the strength in depth of the competition, whether you're competing locally, nationally or internationally, increase dramatically. At this stage many top Junior riders race abroad and we can advice on the procedures and practical aspects to gain valuable experience racing in France, Belgium and beyond. Research indicates that already at Junior level training, performance and physiological variables predict performance at elite level.

Our Junior cycling coaching programme is focussed on giving you the support and guidance to cope with:

  • The increased distance of races.

  • Evolving race tactics to deal with a larger, more competitive peloton.

  • Planning training and competition around Further Education.

  • Racing overseas.

At this stage, we still encourage taking part in diverse disciplines. However, we closely monitor your strengths and weaknesses to advise on increased specialisation to ensure you progress appropriately into the Under 23 category and beyond.

Our Junior Cycling Coaching package is based on our Level 2 coaching plan, with additional guidance on appropriate choices going forward for successful progression through the ranks. This is available at a reduced rate of £75 PCM. If you feel you require further support we can discuss whether the Level 3 coaching plan is appropriate for you.

Weekly Email Consultation and Reassessment

Initial consultation to establish your training goals, cycling history, time availability and any other needs such as body composition measurement, diet analysis and prescription, followed by:

Creation of a yearly periodisation plan based upon your goals and daily detailed training prescription.

Weekly email contact (minimum one coach initiated email conversation per week, rider initiated email contact for feedback encouraged!).

Weekly review of key race/training power meter files and/or heart rate monitor information via TrainingPeaks WKO5 software.

Weekly training session modification as necessary.

Event-based nutrition advice.
